As the 2007 / 08 badminton season starts to draw to a close Division 2 and under mixed players from Newbury and District Badminton league got an opportunity to display their skills at the annual tournament hosted by Cannons Badminton Club. Nine pairs, covering a range of standards, entered the handicapped tournament on Sunday 30 March. Last years winners, Richard Ilsley (Shaw) and Maryanne Stephens (Downlands), were hoping to defend their title. However, all did not go their way and the tournament was closely fought. Special mention is deserved by St Marys Junior, Victoria Stone, who played in her first senior tournament and showed her skills off with some deft touch shots around the net.

Cannons saw one of their own pairs, Lisa Campbell and Paul Rabbetts, come runner up. The eventual winners, Mel Pennington and Steve Heath (both Kintbury), came through in each game from a -7 start. Their title was decided in a close final game of the tournament.
